What to know about this area

New Jersey pickups on hourly bookings carry a $20 surcharge and a four-hour minimum, which is standard for out-of-state origination.

Hoboken and Jersey City are close enough to Manhattan that the Hudson crossing, not the distance, sets the travel time. Tunnel conditions matter more than mileage.

Princeton is a frequent corporate run for us. See city-to-city rates for the published figure.

The Hudson crossing sets the journey, not the mileage

Hoboken and Jersey City are physically closer to Midtown than much of Brooklyn, and frequently take longer to reach. The variable is the tunnel, not the distance.

Between 4pm and 7pm on a weekday, the Lincoln and Holland Tunnel queues are the worst sustained congestion in the region. A journey that takes twenty-five minutes at ten in the morning takes an hour in that window.

When a tunnel closes there is no clean substitute — the George Washington Bridge adds distance and carries its own load. We monitor both crossings and reroute rather than sit in a queue that is not moving.

Newark is the easy part of working in New Jersey

For clients on the New Jersey side, Newark Liberty is straightforward and cheap — no river crossing, no Manhattan traffic, short distances from most of the northern part of the state.

The complication runs the other way: getting from New Jersey to JFK or LaGuardia means crossing the river and then most of the city. Those are long runs and the flat rate is worth checking before assuming a meter is competitive.

Princeton is a regular corporate run for us, as is Short Hills and Summit. See city-to-city rates for the published Princeton figure.
